Earliest meeting: Thursday 25th October 1855
Final meeting: Thursday 25th October 1855
The small market town of Easingwold, close to Hambleton in North Yorkshire, held races for the one and only time in October 1855 to acknowledge the Crimean War. The meeting took place at Newburgh Park on Thursday 25th October 1855, opening with the Newburgh Stakes over a mile complete with hurdles which was won by The Brigadier, owned by Sir G Wombwell. This was followed by the Balaklava Cup over a mile and 6 flights which saw Ready Reckoner defeat 8 others. The Coxwold Free Handicap was won by Victory, but John Osborne’s Yorkshire Grey, who was the even money favourite, trailed in a poor ninth. There is no further evidence of meetings taking place in the town.
